Build Muscle with Fish Oil: What does the Science say?

Build Muscle with Fish Oil: What does the Science say?

If you go around your local gym telling people they can increase muscle mass gains by consuming fish oil, they will probably present you with a weird look. Nonetheless, there might actually be some truth to that seemingly crazy, random claim.

Because when combining the outcome of a very recent study with several older ones, a theoretical case for the otherwise unknown muscle building effects of fish oil intake can be made. This is quite surprising to me, as this is not a beneficial attribute to daily fish oil intake I have come across before.

Creatine and HMB – Here’s why you should stack them!

Creatine and HMB – Here’s why you should stack them!

This is apparently an uncommon supplement combination, but I think there are good reasons for stacking Creatine and HMB.

Both supplements have sturdy scientific research to their name while at the same time being among the cheapest supplements in the fitness supplementation industry.

Generally, I believe in dialing in your training and nutrition before speculating in different supplement stacks, but if those aspects are on track – the Creatine and HMB stack is something you might really want to consider implementing. Continue reading →

Build muscle with dumbbells at home with these two workouts!

Build muscle with dumbbells at home with these two workouts!

A question you’ll find on various fitness and bodybuilding boards is whether you can whole body build muscle with only a pair of dumbbells.

As dumbbells are relatively cheap, easy to store and thus convenient, I am surprised I don’t get this question more often. If we’re able to properly build muscle mass with dumbbells only workouts, that would certainly make life easier for many people.

Is Protein Powder necessary to Build Muscle or Lose Weight?

Is Protein Powder necessary to Build Muscle or Lose Weight?

I think this is a very legitimate question, as protein powder seems to be all the rage when we are first introduced to the world of fitness. Everybody seems to be consuming it – and there are a ton of different brands.

And I mean a ton, marketed towards highly specific niches; vegan lifters, female lifters, elderly lifters and the list goes on.

But is protein powder actually worth it?

Complete PSMF diet guide – Rapid weight loss with a Protein-Sparing Modified Fast

Complete PSMF diet guide – Rapid weight loss with a Protein-Sparing Modified Fast

Word of caution: The PSMF diet is not for everyone. It requires willpower like few other diets. But let me tell you that it works. It works very, very well.

What does PSMF mean? It is a shortening forĀ Protein-Sparing Modified Fast, and it is probably among the fastest ways to lose weight while not completely compromising your health.

To achieve this, the diet attempts to combine the bare minimum nutrient requirements with the biggest caloric deficit possible. Continue reading →

Overweight and scared or anxious of the gym? Don’t be!

Overweight and scared or anxious of the gym? Don’t be!

I have been going to the gym since early 2011, so we’re closing in on a decade of lifting. During this period I have attended big commercial gyms as well as small, “hardcore” niche gyms.

One sighting that I notice multiple times a year, is that of overweight, presumably first-time gym-goers, with a scared, anxious look to their face.

Too often, that will be the last time I see them. It saddens me, so my only motivation for writing this post, is to try and provide some encouragement.

Overweight? Lifting weights is crucial for fat and weight loss

Overweight? Lifting weights is crucial for fat and weight loss

Annoyingly, it still isn’t common practice to instruct overweight/obese people to also lift weights instead of only hammering the treadmill.

And it’s a shame, because if you’re overweight and focus more on lifting weights than just cardio, you’ll likely be much better off!

Push-ups and push-up stands: Benefits and muscle building potential

Push-ups and push-up stands: Benefits and muscle building potential

Are there any benefits to push-ups, and how does the exercise fare as far as muscle building goes?

Almost all of us know how to do a push-up. Some of us encountered it as small children fighting for bragging rights. Some of us encountered a complete lunatic physical education trainer who clearly loved push-ups more than, to him, lesser stuff like.. Life. His wife. Children. Etc.

Whatever good or bad your relationship with push-ups might be, we’re gonna do a little explorin’ on the muscle building capabilities and other potential benefits of the push-up!

Working the same muscle groups two days in a row

Working the same muscle groups two days in a row

I’ve seen this question asked pretty often; “Can I work out two days in a row?”

Usually, the curious guy or gal refers to working the same muscle/exercise/routine two days in a row, more so than just working out two days in a row. A very legitimate question.
